Sleek and dynamic
The emblem of Slovakia's national railway company Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ŽSSK) was created in the early 2000s, but its styling is so timeless and contemporary, it could have been made this morning. Offering perhaps the most simplified yet also dynamic rendition of a winged wheel yet, the logo could be labelled as "Railway Iconography 5.0".
ŽSSK was created in line with EU regulations as the country's specialized passenger operator, thus differentiating it from the network infrastructure manager Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR), which was founded in 1993 with the establishment of Slovakia as an independent nation. ŽSR's logo was cutting-edge at the time of its drafting in the early 1990s and so it made sense for ŽSSK's identity to follow that lineage and general path, thus maintaining a strong overall railway brand in Slovakia, while also having an adjusted and individual look, to distinguish it from ŽSR. To that effect, ŽSSK uses orange as its primary logo color and red and white as the designated train livery, while ŽSR has blue as its primer.
